Watching alot of photo videos and dipping my toe into printing has inspired me to reprocess some older work (what was I thinking?).

This one, circa 2014, has been "almost done" for a few days now.  I put it out for comments.

I like the symmetry, the foreground texture and I love the ghosts - even in the extreme foreground!  I want the sky to be less bright but unless there was a lot of color in the in the raw file that can be saturated, you may not be able bring it down much.

What I did with the Ebisu iwa pic was to make a anti-sky mask, and then invert the sky by applying the mask to an invert layer.  So it went from being brighter than mid tone to darker than mid tone.  Unfortunately I then pulled it down too much and got banding.  It's a technique I will try again however.

Thanks.  Each time I go back to this I darken the sky.   I feel that it needs to balance the bottom better so not quite there.

I think I follow your technique on the rocks.  Just cant take my eyes off that detail!!!

Counter-intuitively, I've found adding noise or "grain" eliminates banding. Though the cure is sometimes worse than the disease... 😀

Hi Ulana,

I like this image and the sky does not bother me - it is ok as it is.  What I find a bit disconcerting is the balance - in the foreground  you have  a multitude of "ghosts" on the left bottom of frame.  The right bottom does not.  Easily fixed by using the layer opacity stacking/merging technique that you looked at.

Cheers!

Thanks Raaj.  Its a long exposure.  Will burn in on the right side to balance out the foreground.

Hi Ulana,

Yes, I realize it is a long exposure.  My apologies for not being terribly clear. I meant something like this, as opposed to just burning in the right hand bottom.  Obviously, better results will be obtained if done early on in the process.  I just took the original image, flipped it horizontally and then combined it using layer masks.  Also, I did not use surgical precision but you get the idea.

See what you think:

Almost Done

Cheers!

Thanks Raaj.  Now I understand your suggestion.   Will get out the scalpel. 😉

Thanks @jmotzi and @rshinde

Here is the next version with both your comments incorporated.

Before and after attached but its seems the system wants after before before.

Hi Ulana!

Looking good!  I would be tempted to take the burn in the bottom half down a bit, but that's me.

Cheers!

Agree with Raaj. Something was throwing me off and it was the imbalance. The image feels weighted to the lower left.
