I finally finished the last gallery from my trip to Ethiopia. It was the toughest to put together. I hope the images speak for themselves without any captions.
This year my goal for my photography is to work more on series / portfolios. The three Ethiopia galleries that I have shared are my first crack at looking at the images with that in mind.
Here is the link.
As I mentioned in my FB comment, I really like this series. While strong images can stand on their own, there often can be a stronger story with sequencing or adding some text, etc.
Until the early 1970s, in the US we had Life Magazine and Look Magazine which were mostly photo essays. Very little text but wonderful stories. It's probably the closest relationship the general public has ever has with fine photography. I am thinking that your images could be expressed in a similar format.
Another good format is the Brooks Jensen series Seeing in Sixes - these are six image exposes. Here are the links to the free previews to perhaps give you some ideas:
There will be one last issue of this in 2019 - entries due by June so you could still enter!!
OK I promise I will stop pushing now 🙂
Thank you Raaj and John for your comments.
This was the most difficult one of the three to try and piece together a consistent series. BW conversion with a touch of tone was the first step but in terms of content it was a challenge pulling together a series. Sequencing is as much art as it is logic. Any suggestions to this series are welcome.
I am old enough to remember those lovely stories in LIFE magazine and coincidentally I was recently referred to Seeing in Sixes. Thanks for that reminder John. It would certainly be a good exercise.
