Hi Folks,

What other hobbies (or obsessions, as the case may be!) do you have?

I always have a lot going on as I have a ton of interests/hobbies other than photography.  I'm a licensed Amateur Radio (Ham) operator and enjoy tinkering with and buildings antennas, receivers and transmitters and other assorted gizmos.  I also enjoy Shortwave Listening (SWL) and collecting vintage radio equipment and restoring old gear.

Also a huge music fan and recently taking Flamenco Guitar lessons.

How about you?

In no particular order, my non-photography vices are....

Espresso Coffee (daily) - but you've seen that...currently focusing on roasts from Elixr (Philadelphia) and Sey (Brooklyn).

Genealogy / Family History (nearly daily) - working on my own roots and sometimes helping others looking for biological parents.  Lots of side projects such tracing the history of land.  I was scheduled (before COVID) to attend two week long institutes this summer  - one got postponed to next year and the other became virtual.  Yes that meant 4.5 days on Zoom!

Woodworking (occasional) - I made a set of nesting boxes a few months ago, but I have not done any major furniture projects for some years.  Mostly it's utilitarian stuff these days and I usually get drafted each winter to make something for one of the displays at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Audio Amplifiers - All of the amplification equipment in my home office is self made, using vacuum tube (valves for UK folks) technology.  Old school combined with new school digital audio sources.  It's been a few years since my last project - how many amps does one need......

Single Malt Whisky (weekly) - I enjoy single malts on Friday & Saturday evening.  Mostly focused on Islay & Highlands, but very much enjoy Springbank from Campbeltown.

Spectators Sport: Formula One Racing.  I follow throughout the season and off season.  My son & I attend two races per year (Montreal & Austin) but this year both were cancelled due to COVID.  We've been going to Montreal for more than 20 years now.

I think that's it!

Great question, Raaj.

Right now, music is taking the most time in the hobby category - more than photography.  I started piano lessons over a year ago - something I've done off and on (mostly off) all of my life.  Even after my move down South, I still play regularly.

I have done a bit of woodworking in the past and may pick it up again if I find the right projects, but do expect to be doing more utilitarian work as we get settled in the house.

My retirement ambition is to get back into model railroading.  I had a small, 10' x 12' room built off our garage for that.  Lots of planning needs to go into it as I intent to model railroad operations in this part of the country around the 1950's.  Gives me an opportunity to learn more about our new home region.

Drawing and painting - I'd say I vacillate between photography and drawing equally.
