For those of you who shoot infrared.

I have an Olympus OMD EM5 micro four thirds camera and three lenses.  wide angle 24mm equivalent, 50mm equivalent and 150mm equivalent.    I am planning on converting it to infrared as I cannot sell the body (its too old) and keep one lens.  I can sell the other two lenses (to help fund the Z7).  If you were to keep one lens for infrared would it be the wide angle or the 50mm equivalent.  The wide angle is Olympus and the 50mm equivalent is Panasonic Leica 1.4 (clearly the better quality).   I am thinking more about versatility - which is more versatile.  I am tending towards the 50mm given the lens quality.

In your experience with infrared photography what lens would you choose?   I have not shot infrared but would like to give it a try.

Hi Ulana,

I got my D3X converted a few years ago to Full Spectrum, so that I can make IR images with it.

The challenge with IR and lenses is that some lenses have a visible hot-spot that shows up as an ugly spot, often quite sizable and bang in the middle of the frame.  I am not sure how the lenses you reference behave but I recommend you research their IR performance.  One page that is useful is here - https://kolarivision.com/articles/lens-hotspot-list/  On that page is a list of m43 lenses.  I am sure there are others on the net.

BTW, the company above, in the link, were the peopel that did my D3X conversion and I recommend them highly - IMO they are the best.

Good luck!  Look forward to your IR images!

Cheers!

Thanks Raaj. That is very helpful.  Looks like both lenses are in the good performers list.   So it really boils down to shooting: wide angle or 50mm
